School Direct Initial Teacher Education (ITE)

Are you interested in becoming a Science(Physics), Computer Science or Mathematics Teacher?

This exciting school based programme of Initial Teacher Education is available at Mark Rutherford from September 2015. We are working in partnership with the University of Bedfordshire and other local schools.

We have 3 training places to start in September 2015: Science (Physics), Computer Science and Mathematics. Candidates will need to pay a course fee of £9,000 but may be eligible for bursaries and loans, details available on the DfE website. Successful trainees will be awarded Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a PGCE from our training provider, The University of Bedfordshire.

We welcome applicants who have:

  • UK residency
  • GCSE Mathematics and English at grade C or above (or equivalent)
  • A degree- preferably first class, upper or lower second in the subject you wish to train in (or a closely related subject)

Interested but think that you might need some more experience?

If you are thinking about teaching as a career and would like to get some more experience in a school we are able to support with opportunities to visit the school and to complete an observation placement. To arrange this please contact Jenny Palmer at  or 01234 290200.

All offers of a place are conditional until Disclosure and Barring (DBS) checks have been successfully completed, qualification checks and satisfactory references have been received and the professional skills tests have been passed.
